already have/re-gift) wrapped. If bringing a spouse and they want to do
the exchange then bring two gifts-- need one for each person. I have a
couple of extra French-y things here if anyone needs a stunt gift. Just let
me know!

End of year quickly approaching....

C'est possible? I can't believe that we've passed the half-way mark in our Fall semester! I think everyone is enjoying the format. Those interested are reviewing chapters in Trésors du Temps every-other Wednesday, with Linda's classes reinforcing the material the alternate Tuesdays.

It's getting to that time of year when we start thinking about our Christmas celebration. If you have ideas, suggestions, or want to host a dinner, please email the group. We also have Beaujolais Nouveau marked on the calendar. I'm planning to check wth the Desserterie and Café Catura to see if either have the wine, should we decide to meet at one of those locations. Your ideas on this would also be welcome.

Fall 2010 Notes...

Classes with Linda begin this Tuesday at Midlo. Please remember to bring a check for $80, payable to Linda. Antoni has decided not to participate this session.

There will be 2 conversational groupings in Linda's class: Regular and Advanced. Please sit with your group to minimize time it takes to work on small group conversation.
1. Advanced sit on left side facing board; Regular sit on right side facing board.
2. Try changing seats every week, so that you will be beside someone different each week.

Remember to bring your white boards with dry-erase marker(s). I still have a few for those who don't have one yet, so don't buy one if you don't have one. I haven't bought markers, so you'll need those.

Mes Amis regular sessions started last week and will be on alternate Wednesdays. We will be reviewing the grammar in one chapter each meeting (see schedule for chapters and leaders). Feel free to bring additional materials you wish to share. Linda will be giving us opportunities to practice the grammer learned in her next class to help reinforce what we learned.

Septembre - Gearing up for Classes with Linda !!

Please note that there are no meetings scheduled for this week. Enjoy your week off!

Please check out the schedule, as Linda's classes start soon. Try to come a few minutes early and bring your $75 payment to the first class. If you have decided to not participate, please let me know ASAP, as this affects the cost for all of us.

I have forwarded your comments on Linda's ideas for class activities to Linda on Sunday. Since only about 1/2 of the group responded, I also added my comments to make sure we also include activities to meet the needs of the less advanced members. Linda is reviewing and brainstorming strategies. I will let you know once a plan is finalized.

I'd like to get an idea of who will be attending the regular Mes Amis sessions, so we can decide what activities we want to do. Since we won't be having homework from Linda (we won't be using the book), do we want to do other activities or review the book on our own? Send me your thoughts and we can discuss at our next meeting.

5 Août - change of plans...

Charles will not be able to attend this week, so Gi will hold a short lesson on Confusing Word Pairs instead. Hopefully, we can reschedule the lesson on Pronouns for later this fall.

29 Juillet à Starbucks

Our next meeting will be led by Tish, who will cover the following:

• The common irregular verbs: vouloir, pouvoir, and devoir.
• Following-up with comprehension review (reading a text and following up with questions about what we read).
• Also, another lesson with another topic (not yet chosen).

Last Thursday, Robert led our discussion about our next trip to France in 2011. We all pulled out our maps and oooh'd and aahh'd over the various possiblities. Robert will be pulling together some more specific options and send it out to all. We had a wonderful time in 2008 and are looking forward to seeing yet another area of France in 2011. Gi...

8 Juillet à Starbucks Target

Last week we continued our discussion on adjectives. Deborah left us with a homework handout with answer sheet. Be sure to take a stab at it to reinforce what we learned. Gi will lead the group next time in a discussion of Verbs with Prepositions, emphasizing Verb + De. Suzanne will follow up on the 15th with Verb + À. It's another exhaustive subject, and we will not try to memorize it all this go round - but focus on commonly used verbs with various prepositions.

1 Juillet à Starbucks Target

Our meeting this week will be at the Target Starbucks on Midlothian. We will continue our study of adjectives with Deborah. Last week we started our discussion on attributive adjectives and we will finish that up this week before moving onto determinative adjectives. Handout were sent in email and are also posted on the downloads page of this site for easy access. À jeudi!

17 Juin - à Midlo

Our next meeting will be at Midlo this week. Tish will be explaining how to use Dont, Lequel, Auquel, etc.

Our last 2 sessions were super!
3 Juin - Nanette discussed a little-known use of the present tesnse to indicate future action.
10 Juin - Suzanne reviewed the Subjonctif again. She also sent out homework exercises. This is a good way to reinforce what we learned.

3 Juin - Verb Tense Review à La Prade

We had a wonderful session last night with Mimi reviewing Nouns and Articles. We reviewed when and how to use Definite, Indefinite, and Partitive Articles. We have a handout to be completed by next session. Mimi will post the answers prior to the next class, so we can check our work. Guillaume led us through a listening exercise on CD, which was challenging, but very good practice. Merci bien à Mimi & Guillaume.

Our next session will be at La Prade, where Nanette will be reviewing all the Verb Tenses and explain when to use them. (More to come on this...)

27 Mai - Parts of Speech

Someone mentioned difficulty picking out parts of speech in a sentence (me, too), so the "unit" title would be Parts of Speech. This lesson, I hope, will briefly discuss nouns in general, then move to the articles. I plan to discuss the three types in detail: definite, indefinite, and partitive. I expect to have a full outline to give everybody. I'm drawing from several sources that I have here at home; I'm also counting on input from the group. Guillaume is working on a recorded dialogue. Nous avons l'intention de continuer réunir cet été chaque semaine. Visitez le blog pour les dates. Dites-moi ou Suzanne si vous voudriez enseigner une classe. Nous nous concentrerons sur une liste d'articles problème - par example: dont/lequel/auquel, les verbes, les partitives, etc. Répondez à moi si vous avez des suggestions pour des sujets. Nos Devoirs Pour le 13 Mai à La Prade

Bonjour à tous! Pendant notre leçon dernière, nous avons couvert beaucoup de territoire! Le thême de la soirée était toutes les choses misérables . . . comme, «Les Misérables» ! Linda nous a dit de la première fois qu'elle a vu la pièce. Oh là là! Quelle expérience merveilleuse pour elle! Ensuite, nous avons discuté nos pièces préférées. Et enfin, nous avons corrigé nos devoirs dans le cahier.

Pour le 13 Mai, il faut lire dans "Trésors du Temps" pp. 32 - 34, et faire les exercices A, C et D.
